SFX – SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKEUP PROGRAM

SFX (SPECIAL EFFECTS) MAKEUP PROGRAM SFX-300

The SFX makeup program is offered four days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This program is composed of 500 clock hours of instruction, with 25 credit units, and is taught over 5 months.

Overall Objectives:
To prepare students for entry-level positions in shops and companies that caters to the special effects industries for film, television, print media, commercial and video productions.

Course Content:
This course offers students the full-range of training necessary to begin a career in the special effects industry.

Some of the specific areas of training include:

  • Life Casting (full head)
  • Basic Makeup Techniques & Painting
  • Mold Making
  • Designing Techniques
  • Foam Rubber Casting
  • Pre-painting Appliances
  • Sculpting Techniques
  • Basic Airbrushing Techniques
  • Running Silicone
  • Body Part Casting
  • Hair Effects
  • Prosthetic Applications
  • Casting Facial Expressions
  • Silicone Molds & Pieces
  • Seaming
  • Running Foam
  • Multi-Piece Molding
  • Final Project Presentations

This class is taught in a SFX lab, with customized spray booth and oven, and state-of-the-art equipment and tools.

Grades are determined by: attendance, completion of project assignments, quizzes, final projects and written final exam
